Tim’s Personal Testimony

In 1964, at the age of nine, I realized I was a sinner when a faithful soul presented the truth of God’s Word (Romans 10:17, John 3:3, Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12) during an evening campfire service at a week-long Bible camp sponsored by the church to which my parents had sent me. I was lovingly confronted with my need of a Saviour.

I repented of my sin and turned to the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved! Believer’s baptism by full immersion came next, in October of that year. I do not recall going to church much after that, but God had already begun a good work in me! (Philippians 1:6)

For the next sixteen years, I was “on hold” in terms of spiritual growth; but it was clear in my heart that I had been born again and called by God for a purpose.

I enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1973-1976. After receiving an honorable discharge, I did police dispatch for a year then served as a full-time police officer in southern California from 1977 to 1980, and as a reserve officer after that until 1987. There were many times during those military and law enforcement days where death literally stared me square in the face, but the Lord’s hand of protection upon me was so evident!

When my wife and I were married in 1982, we began attending church and growing in our walk together with the Lord. In 1988, she was baptized in an independent fundamental Baptist church in northern California where we had since moved to.

It was at that time that I began to take my commitment to Christ seriously. The Lord then began to show me His leading in a very clear way.

I taught school for ten years in grades 4-8. I taught three of those years in the public system and the remaining seven in private Christian schools, working as a “teaching principal” for two of those years. I was also an academic instructor in the California State Prison System for three summers. It was in that setting that I became comfortable with witnessing in a corrections atmosphere. We began to home school our children when our oldest son was in first grade, and we have home schooled all of our five children since.

In September of 2000, the Lord placed a burden upon my heart to minister to local law enforcement officers and inmates, as well as to their families, here in the Detroit Lakes area. I became a Biblical Law Enforcement and Corrections Chaplain in late 2001, and left my secular job in March of 2002, stepping out in faith at 0% support to minister full-time under the authority of my local church, the Berean Baptist Church of Detroit Lakes, MN.

Our new sanctuary; formerly a bar and Mexican restaurant! Praise the Lord!

Since then the Lord’s hand of blessing upon us has been faithful, and we give Him all the praise and thanks! (See Also Tim’s Biography)
