Doctrinal Statement

In PURSUIT! MINISTRIES is a ministry of The Berean Baptist Church of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Doctrinal Positions of Berean Baptist Church of Detroit Lakes, MN

Concerning the Scriptures: We believe the Scriptures to be verbally and plenarily inspired of God and to be the sole authority for faith and conduct.

Concerning the True God: We believe in the One and only true God as revealed in Scripture; triune in nature; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Concerning Man: We believe that man was created sinless and by one transgression all men are sinners by state, disposition, and act, under condemnation.

Concerning Salvation: We believe that salvation is by faith in the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ.

Concerning the Local Church: We believe that the church is made up of local groups of baptized believers who have organized autonomously, following the Biblical structure of church polity with pastors and deacons as the only officers. We observe baptism and the Lord’s Supper as the only local church ordinances.

Concerning Civil Government: We believe that civil government is by Divine Authority and is to be obeyed in all things that do not violate the Word of God. We believe in the separation of church and state in that the state should have no control over the local church.

Concerning Heresy and Apostasy: We believe in separation from all forms of heresy and ecclesiastical apostasy.

Separational Position of Berean Baptist Church of Detroit Lakes, MN

It will be difficult to address all the ins and outs of the separational issue in one simple declaration. However, a statement is nonetheless necessary in the work of In PURSUIT! MINISTRIES as it extends beyond our everyday observances and control.

We do not associate in name with any group, church, or organization that is not solely under the auspice of a local church of like faith and practice. The doctrinal position of these churches must follow the fundamental position of independent Baptist churches.

We do not associate with churches, whether Baptist or not, that have chosen to follow the neo-evangelical positions of Bill Hybels and Rick Warren. Other positions of “outcome-based” religion have begun to encroach into the practices of otherwise doctrinally-sound churches. It is this dangerous approach to relationship over truth from which we, as Berean Baptist Church and In PURSUIT! MINISTRIES, are attempting to guard ourselves in the associations that form in the ministry of corrections and law enforcement.

It is neither our goal nor desire to direct other churches in the choices they make, but it is our concern that our position is clear and protected as we make our ministries available to other churches.
