LE/Civil Servant Day

A careful study of Romans 13:1-7 reveals that the authority which human government exercises is given directly from the Lord Himself, and we are to obey those whom He has placed in authority over us. Thus, those who resist the authority are resisting the Lord, and they will bring upon themselves “damnation.” (verse 2)

The Word of God teaches us that human government is one of the three institutions that have been ordained by God.
Human government bears the power of the sword under direct authority from God. While the passage in Romans Chapter 13 speaks bromadly of civil government’s authority to deprive a citizen of liberty and sometimes life after due process of law, there is one group of professionals in our society which is charged with the task of 24-hour vigilance, representing God’s authority within His ordained institution of civil government.

Charged with the role of protector and enforcer, these professionals keep the public trust. They often find themselves in the position of having to be the judge, the jury, and the executioner in a split-second street decision. These are the men and women of law enforcement.

To demonstrate a heartfelt appreciation for our civil servants, many churches have hosted special “Law Enforcement Appreciation” services, “Civil Servant Sunday,” or “Home-Town Hero” services.

Make it clear to them that you welcome them, guns and all! Law Enforcement professionals are ordained ministers of God’s institution of justice and their uniforms and sidearms are the observable manifestation of their God-given authority! (Romans 13:1-6) It is our desire to encourage the men and women of law enforcement by demonstrating to them that there are still some parents today who teach their children that the police officer is their friend to whom they can go for help in time of need; that there are still some parents who teach their children to respect and obey God-given authority, and that we look up to them with respect and admiration for the job that they do.
These services are great opportunities for young people to learn about the law enforcement profession and how they can pray more intelligently for our officers. In some instances, the Lord has used Law Enforcement Appreciation Services to help solidify a young person’s goal towards law enforcement as a career choice!
We have some suggested formats and orders of service for you if your local church wishes to host one of these events. Please email, write, or call to receive a packet of resource ideas!
