Did you know that Law Enforcement officers are mentioned in the Bible?

The Bible isn’t an outdated old book. It has solid answers to all of life’s perplexing issues, including marital and other relationship problems, stress, finances, and the constant temptation to do and think wrong things; and you might be surprised by what else you will find in the Bible.

In reality, the Bible has a great deal to say about the law enforcement profession because it is a facet of of His ordained institution of human authority.

Please don’t wait until you’re at your next law enforcement funeral to consider what God and His Word has to say about you and your chosen career.

As a patrol officer back in the late 70′s and early 80′s I attended my share of funerals for my brother officers. Even today I can’t quite hold it completely together when I hear the bagpipes playing Amazing Grace. But one thing I have learned over the years is how much the Lord Jesus Christ loves Law Enforcement Officers. (Click Here for more info on that)

“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers [authority]. For there is no power [authority] but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. (2) Whosoever therefore resisteth the power [authority], resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. (3) For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: (4) For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. – Romans 13:1-4

This passage from the Bible tells us that human government is an institution ordained and established by God Himself for the purpose of depriving the evildoer (or lawbreaker), under certain circumstances, of two of his most precious God-given rights: liberty and life. As an officer, you are the 24/7 visible representative of that God-ordained institution. As a sworn officer of the law, you are God’s enforcer who bears “the sword” for a reason. To be sure, by upholding the laws of the land in honesty, integrity, and impartiality, you’re doing the Lord’s work. There is no higher calling of service to our society. Don’t be caught short on your readiness to step into eternity.

 

You can be sure that God’s Word is more up-to-date than the calls you haven’t even been assigned to yet! It’s not some dusty book of stories that don’t have any bearing on what’s going on here and now. Its Truths are more relevant and cutting-edge than tomorrow’s news headlines! It’s more up-to-date than the reports you’re still down.It supports and encourages you in your calling and duties as a law officer. If someone has ever told you that taking someone’s life in a clean shoot will send you to Hell, do not believe such foolishness. Only a person’s rejection of Jesus Christ as his own personal Lord and Saviour will send him to Hell (John 3:3; John 1:12).
